Atlantic Rugby 7s: Barewa, AJ Sharks are champions
Barewa RFC delivered a commanding performance to defeat Cowrie RFC 19–0 and clinch the men’s title at the Atlantic Rugby 7s in Lagos. The final, held at Rugby School Nigeria, showcased Barewa’s dominance, as they controlled possession, defended with discipline, and converted their chances with clinical precision.
In the women’s category, AJ Sharks edged Edo Queens 7–0 to emerge champions. The contest was tightly contested, but AJ Sharks’ organised defence and sharp attacking play proved decisive in sealing victory.
Organisers described the tournament as a strategic platform for revitalising domestic rugby and strengthening competition nationwide. General Manager of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Azeez Ladipo, said the event was designed to provide crucial game time for players while identifying emerging talents for national assignments.
The competition featured 11 teams drawn from across the federation, including representatives from Kano, Rivers, Edo, Ogun, and Lagos states.
