Ghana Football Association (GFA) Director of IT Francis Essah Adu has detailed the transformation of football administration in Ghana, describing a shift from paper-based systems to a fully digital, globally connected structure.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast with Patrick Akoto, Adu reflected on his 25-year journey at the Football Association, highlighting how technology has reshaped player registration and data management.
“When I joined in 2001, everything was manual. We relied on paper documents, stored and distributed physically,” he said.
That process has now been replaced by a centralised digital system integrated into FIFA Connect, allowing instant access to player data across football associations worldwide.
“This system allows real-time access and validation. A player registered today becomes immediately eligible and visible within the global football ecosystem,” Adu explained.
He noted that the shift has improved efficiency, reduced errors and enhanced transparency in player movement and registration.
Adu believes Ghana’s progress in digital football administration places the country among forward-thinking federations on the continent.
“The journey hasn’t been easy, but the progress is clear. We’ve moved from delays and paperwork to speed and accountability,” he added.
With continued collaboration with FIFA, Adu expects further improvements in system integration and compliance, ensuring Ghana football keeps pace with global standards.
