World Cup 2026: Henry puts Senegal among the teams to watch
Football fans around the globe are eagerly awaiting the kick-off of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in North America (Canada, Mexico, and the United States) from June 11 to July 19.
In comments given to the Spanish daily Marca, former French international Thierry Henry shared his excitement for this edition, calling it exceptional and truly one of a kind.
The ex-Arsenal and FC Barcelona striker also discussed the main title contenders, placing Argentina, France, and Spain at the top of the favorites list.
Above all, you have to show great respect to Argentina, the reigning champions. They’re always a strong side, with Messi wearing the number 10. Then there’s France, with a remarkable squad that has reached the final in the last two editions, as well as Spain,” said Henry.
World Cup 2026: Henry believes in Senegal
Continuing his analysis, Thierry Henry named Senegal as one of the teams capable of shaking up the established order and springing a surprise during the tournament.
The French legend added: “I really like Portugal’s midfield: João Neves, Bernardo Silva, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes… with Nuno Mendes and others behind them… and up front, they have the ‘monster’ (referring to Cristiano Ronaldo). I think you have to respect that team.”
He went on: “There’s also England, the possibility of a Brazilian revival, as well as Norway, Senegal, and Germany. The World Cup is always full of surprises, and so much depends on injuries, coaching decisions, and other factors.”
